People hate Monday mornings. Today is the first day in more than a month – since I left MegaCorp for early retirement – that I am getting up for some kind of work. I’m heading out of town for a one day meeting with a company for which i serve on the board of directors. It’s a paid gig once every 90 days – but has me thinking about the feeling of Monday morning and the ‘performance anxiety’ that accompanies it.
The board is actually quite an enjoyable thing to be involved in and the meetings are comprised of a great group of people who do their best to help the company (with thousands of employees around the world) make the best decisions. Being involved with SmallCorp has been a good counterbalance to my work at MegaCorp. We meet the night before for a nice dinner and catch up socially. Sometimes, including today, I fly in early to spend some extra time with SmallCorp management.
That said, since I am waking up on Monday morning to head to work, some of those old Monday Morning feelings are creeping in. Half way through the day on Sunday I thought – “Damn! I have to start getting ready for the meeting this week!” In honor of these Monday morning anxieties, I thought I would share this small collection of memes that capture the feeling of work-depression that often starts the week. Enjoy!

I agree Mondays can be tough. After being in weekend mode – doing things for myself and having fun, I felt like I was just getting started. Then its over and back to work. Much too short! But if you have a good situation and like your job then maybe its not quite so bad. (Or if you only have to work 1 day 😉

Hard to complain about one day, but the old feeling certainly come back quickly.

Annoyingly, Mondays have been a bane during much of my sabbatical — the younger daughter takes ages to roust out of bed for school. Got no responsibilities otherwise, and it’s a right royal pain still.

Yes – my wife complains about that. Our son has just two weeks left in high school, and then summer will be here!

Makes me think of Bob Geldof and the Boomtown Rats – I don’ like Mondays or The Cure Friday I’m in Love With. Or Bangles – Manic Monday.
Yikes, showing my age here. Time to stop writing…..

The Cure was 1992. Still, same point. We are both getting on….but young at heart of course.😉

My company used to own a call center in Boston. And when the Patriots would lose over the weekend, our absentee rate on Monday would sky rocket.

People have their priorities! Fortunately, the patriots don’t lose very often.

Thanks for the Monday memes–very funny! I agree that there is a Monday feeling, and I don’t like it. Sometimes I even think my kids have a “case of the Mondays.”

One day of work wasn’t too rough on me this week, but I’m happy to be retired until next quarter’s meeting. 😉

Mondays have never bothered me. Then again, we are open and work seven days a week so every day is the same to us. Some days are busier than others that’s about it. Life as a small business owner 🙂

Owning your own business is challenging, but most people who do so are happier because you are building your OWN success, not someone else’s.

A good and bad thing to still have to do it, I bet it keeps you on your business toes 🙂
Plus, you still get to ‘give’ back too. Sounds quite nice, I’d like to do that if the opportunity ever came up.
