e-Bike Summer

My eBike purchase 3 years ago continues to be a great fun. I reached the milestone of 1,000 miles earlier this summer and continue to use it a lot. I’m at about 1,060 miles now.

The last three years have gone like this: 200 miles, 300 miles, and now 550 miles. Quite increase, huh?

At the same time, the ebike has started to need repairs – unlike a ‘normal’ pedal bike. The issues all relate to the ‘e’ system.

First, the handlebar computer, which is attached by a plastic clip, snapped off. A replacement was $150, so I just ‘velcro-ed’ it back in place. Then, the motor went out when I was riding. A $170 repair found a short in the wires in the main bike frame. A friendly shop fixed that. Last, one of the ‘selection buttons’ popped off. My wife found it on the garage floor and I glued it back on.

None of the repairs was super upsetting, but I think they show that e-bikes are more vulnerable than traditional bikes. Additionally, the repair I did need at the shop was expedited by a good friend that owns the shop. Otherwise, I might have been sidelined for a few weeks waiting for that repair. That would have been frustrating in our short summer.

Still, I’m getting out every week for a couple rides of 10-20-30 miles. I love being able to zip around our cities’ great bike path system and let the e-bike flatten out the hills.

How much do you pedal each year?
