Hiding Mittens 101:
Be where the hunters are:
- Listen for online chatter
- Find out where they are focusing
- Usually 2-3 parks get whittled down to 1 park over the weekend.
- Parks can change fast!
Hide them near a park feature:
- A giant twisted old tree trunk
- a picnic pavilion
- the base of a flagpole
- Playground equipment
- Alongside a band stand
- Under a mailbox
- By a monument
- Inside a picnic grill
- By a park sign
- A big rock
- Features big enough to see on Google Maps are good!
- Places where people would look, but “civilians” wouldn’t happen across.

Don’t hide them for “difficulty”
- we want them to find’em
- Don’t put in a wide open field
- Don’t put in deep woods
Conceal it in something:
- Plastic pop bottle
- A tin can
- An old box
- Under a few leaves
- Or loose is fine, too

Make note where it is …
- 1) Take close up pictures of mitten in its hiding spot
- 2) Take picture of landmark
- 3) Mark the spot on Google Maps
- Text the 2 pictures & coordinates to everyone else on the Mitten Squad
- I’ll try to keep track of where they are, which have been found

Be prepared to come back …
- Parks can go “cold” when the next clue comes out.
- You may need to come back and pick up the mitten.
- This makes having accurate location very critical!
Monitor online chatter …
- Finders asked to post to Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt Forum on Facebook
- Text if you see someone post!

Once the Medallion is found …
- People still love to hunt
- We’ll send out clues for the remaining ones
- Might need to move or place a few that weren’t placed / found.
