They say that in Spring, “hope springs eternal”. I wish I could be so optimistic right now. Spring is frankly my least favorite of all the seasons. Particularly this time of spring – from mid-March to the end of April.
In Minnesota, this time of year is still cold, wet, and desolate. We get a few nice days in April, but generally it’s not ‘outside’ weather just yet. It was still snowing on Saturday here!

This morning, I’ll be taking our dog for a walk when it’s still in the 30s, and then going for a walk with a buddy in our suburban athletic field ‘bubble’. It’s too miserable to be outside. In fact, it won’t reach 45° until about 10:00 AM when the wins start gusting up to 35 miles an hour. Depressing.
I’ve read that spring ‘moves’ at a rate of 15-miles a day. Living on the 45th-parallel means that we are are about 3 weeks behind Chicago (320 miles South), 6 weeks behind Nashville (630 miles South), and a whopping 2.5 months behind our new vacation condo in Celebration FL (1,160 miles South).
So, why aren’t we in Florida still? Aren’t we still supposed to be snowbirding in April? We’re new at this, but are asking ourselves those same questions. It is great to get home to our family and friends in Minnesota (we came home for Easter), but the weather makes it hard to get out and enjoy our time together.
Things should brighten up here quickly when we get into May. Mid-May, at least. Still, next year, I think our approach will be to invite as many people as possible to visit us in Florida for a Spring Break. We’ll all benefit from the Florida sunshine – instead of coming home so early!
How is Spring shaping up where you are?

I will be the first to comment to my own post! Despite my worries, it ended up a beautiful, sunny morning in the mid-40s – with little breeze. We went for our walk outside – around our nearby lake. Even saw a Bald Eagle in a tree close up. I guess hope dies spring eternal this time of year!
