Splurging has been a theme in these posts recently, and what better place to put that into practice than Las Vegas. I spent 4 nights in Vegas two weekends ago and did my best to put a small dent into our savings.
First, I arrived earlier than my buddies and checked myself into the resort spa for a massage. Next, I gambled worry-free on football, hockey, and baseball games. As a group, we saw John Mulaney and the Vegas show Absinthe. Still, my biggest splurge was a “high performance driving experience” in this $330K Ferrari F8 supercar on SpeedVegas’ 1.3 mile race track.

For about $500, I got to spend the morning with instructors briefing me on the car & road course and encouraging me to “drive it like you stole it!” I’ve got a sports car of my own and have done a variety of track events, but not with 711 horsepower and the handling of this pedigreed stallion from Maranello.
I took their advice and put the Ferrari through its paces – improving lap after lap, passing slower traffic, and reaching 127 mph on the relatively short 1/3rd mile straightaway. My best lap time was 10 seconds behind Mario Andretti’s best time at this track, and he didn’t have traffic to pass.
I was pretty energized by this “bucket list” adventure and happy I splurged on it. I definitely would do it again … since they had a big lot filled with Lamborghinis, Porsches, and McLarens, too. How interested would you be in driving one of those cars?
