Jet Lag Sunrise

We got up early yesterday morning to take our son to the airport. He and his girlfriend were leaving for a fun trip to Japan. Getting up early, is usually no fun for me, but this time my wife and I are benefiting from the jet lag resulting from our trip to Europe last week.

I usually get up a little after 8 AM, but this week we are closer to sunrise at 6 AM. When we come back from a trip, I always wonder if it would be a good idea to use the jet lag as a way to permanently change my everyday schedule. That said, after about a week I am usually back on my old schedule.

It’s funny that after almost a decade of early retirement, I still have the same schedule. They say as you get older, you tend to wake up earlier (and are more likely to take a nap), but that hasn’t kicked in for me. I’m happy to sleep in each morning (and take a nap now and then!).

Has your everyday schedule changed over time? Did you do it consciously?

  1. In the mid 90s I was working with mostly an East Coast Customer base and mirrored their hours starting at 9:00 AM EST / 6:00 AM PST. The good part is that I also quit for day early at around 3:00 PM PST.

There are some real advantages. Avoid commuter traffic and hit the gym when it isn’t full. I was able to also attend my sons’ athletic events.

Today, I still get up at sunrise. Great time to walk my dogs. I have always been a big nap taker, even in college especially after lifting.
