I am waking up in Las Vegas today – realizing that I didn’t post any thing yesterday. I was busy spending money and making bad bets here in Sin City / Glitter Gulch and certainly don’t have any helpful personal finance advice from that experience!
When I went to the Flamingo Hotel gift shop to buy a T shirt or a deck of cards as a souvenir this morning, I saw this funny magnet.

It reminded me that today – October 14th – is the 36th Anniversary of my first day at MegaCorp. That’s SO long ago it was last CENTURY! Yikes.
Anyway, I was pleased that I still even remember that day without an email from MegaCorp HR congratulating me on working another year in the salt mines. This is the now 10th work anniversary that I haven’t been working. Success!
Do you still remember / how long do you think you’ll recall your work anniversary dates?

There are only three work anniversary dates I remember.
October 30th was the day I started my best job and my middle son was born during the day, so I had to get excused from new hire training to drive a couple blocks to the hospital.
April 15th is Saint Valentine’s Day, the date of the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre and the date that the best company I ever worked for got sold. It turned out to be St. Valentine’s Day Massacre for the employees of the company.
September 17th was the day before my birthday, and I gave myself the best birthday present ever. I retired.

It’s funny how those dates stick in your head, isn’t it? We did weight loss research with women at MegaCorp and most of them could recall the weight they were the day they graduated high school and the day they got married. Maybe career dates are like that for men?!
