I’m down in steamy Florida right now, spending the weekend at our vacation place down here. Like most newer developments in Florida, there are a fair number of golf carts on the road, but I don’t think we’re going to invest in one.
First, our town of Celebration isn’t really a “retirement village”. There are a decent number of retirees, but the demographics of the town are pretty close to the state of Florida, overall. That means most people get around in regular vehicles … or bikes … as they go about their everyday business.
The town is more geared around walking, running, and biking than anything else. While we only have a population of 11K, there are an amazing 34 miles of extra wide, illuminated pathways and boardwalks. Golf carts aren’t allowed on those.
Last winter. I bought an e-bike to keep here. Even though Florida is pretty flat, I think an e-bike might be the perfect way to zip around town. From our condominium. We can bike down to our town center in less than 10 minutes.
I don’t think a golf cart would be any more fun or entertaining, although the town does have a fun golf cart group that does parades through town for different holidays. It might also be fun to have a 4-seater golf cart for when people visit. To give them a quirky tour of the town or go out to eat. That said, a street legal cart probably runs in the $6-$12K range.
Is your community big on golf carts? Do you have one … would you consider one?

I live in a rural area, so really not anywhere close to go to. Several neighbors do have Polaris ATVs that they use for managing large properties. Hikers actually drive to out to the area to hike the trails. My dogs just walk out my door.

I spent a day with a bunch of guys driving Polaris Razor side-by-sides on forest & logging roads a few weeks ago near Weyerhaeuser, Wisconsin. They are fun & really go fast!
