Out of Tune Goals

I try to share the good and bad of our early retirement lifestyle in these posts and here’s another bad one.

One of my goals in retirement was to learn to play the electric guitar that I bought 6 years before I retired. That was 10 years ago.

So, I’m 16 years behind.

This reminder popped up on my Facebook “Memories” tab today. I still have the 2010 Fender “Squire” Stratocaster. I even have the original box that says “Stop Dreaming and Start Rocking!”

Unfortunately, the box & guitar are virtually unmoved since I made it a goal to learn the instrument in my original goals list 10 years ago …

I think it would have been better if I had signed up for some lessons. There was a young guy at our church that used to do guitar lessons, but I never gave him a call. Maybe he’s still around. Putting a little “operational cadence” (to use a MegaCorp term) behind a goal helps get things moving.

What retirement goals are you embarrassingly behind on?

  1. I haven’t restored a Corvette at the Community College.

On the plus side, I installed a new high efficiency heat pump, finished my garage, built a dedicated laundry room and rebuilt a deck. Almost knocked everything off my punch list, so I can get back to the car.

      1. Just got some good news on the restoration front, looks like Leno’s Law is going to pass. This law will avoid having to smog check the car as long as the car is not used as a daily driver and is insured as a classic car. Just got an order of new shelving, a cabinet and workbenches to better organize my garage.

Paint the house front and plant some firesafe plants and then it is resto time.

      2. Nice – just in time to get going on it this summer. Plenty of time before you’ll need to license it. What “generation” Corvette is it?

  2. We will see on the by summer. It is a C3 and is simple technology that with a few auto tech upgrades will be nice. I have owned it since college.
