Happy Halloween! Candy prices are up this year, but we’re still splurging on the full-size chocolate bars. We switched to the big bars 10 Halloween’s ago – the year I early retired.
My AI research tool thinks that the price of Halloween candy has roughly DOUBLED since 2016, so you might think we’re cutting back. No, our stock market investments have gone up a whopping +328% overall (+14%/year) over that same period, using the S&P 500.
So, go all out tonight! Splurge on the trick-or-treaters and spread some holiday happiness! Happy Halloween!

We haven’t had a Trick or Treater show up for at least the past decade. Nothing but older folk without children in our neighborhood. When our kids were in K-8, one of the parents in the neighborhood would always throw a Halloween Party and the kids would walk the neighborhood and hit up all the parents’ houses at the party.
The combination of rural setting, dark skies area designation, coyotes, mountain lions and bear keep city dwellers from hitting up our neighborhood for Halloween.

It’s 8pm here now and we are close to 140 trick-or-treaters. Pretty good for rainy and 39 degrees. Our record is 200, about 12 years ago.
