It has been a full week since giving formal notice to resign my job and leave MegaCorp for early retirement. Once that was properly toasted with a glass of fine scotch, it was time to tell everyone else in the office – friends, teammates, and other corporate colleagues. Sharing this news is clearly one of the most looked forward to of FIRE Milestones. Related: See … Continue reading FIRE Milestones – Announcing To Colleagues
Yes I did. I turned in my formal resignation for early retirement last week Wednesday. It was an epic day almost from the dawn’s first light. A magical snowstorm came through our state, leaving ten inches of crystal white snow over the landscape. We greeted the day as a family with buckwheat flapjacks, real maple syrup and a one hour “late start” to work and … Continue reading FIRE Milestones – Formal Resignation Notice
Today is the day. Plans have accelerated. At the end of the workday, I expect to be sitting down with my boss and pouring out a simple toast of thanks prior to announcing my impending early retirement. It will be the first time I’ve told my boss that I am leaving MegaCorp and will constitute my formal resignation notice. To celebrate the milestone (and quell … Continue reading Cheers To Early Retirement – Formal Notice
We are in the home stretch, indeed. This is the January month end report of our journey to financial independence & retiring early (“FIRE”). It was a full year ago I published the first of this countdown series, when I was 14 months away from the date. Each month I try to recap the key events & decisions that are made in hopes that someone … Continue reading Early Retirement FIRE Escape – Two Months To Go!
A terrific thing happened at work yesterday. One of our very capable managers came in my office and said, “I’m retiring!” It was the first time in my 27 year career that anyone on my team had retired (that will tell you about culture of the MegaCorp’s I have worked for). I was SO excited for him. He’s about 7 years older than I am, … Continue reading Up, Up & Away … Early Retirement
I have been (mostly) out of the office over for the Christmas & New Year’s holidays and thinking about the permanent vacation I am planning on embarking on in just a few months. As such, I’ve been thinking a lot about how I have been spending my days as you could think of these two weeks as a bit of early retirement “practice”. Here are … Continue reading “Practice” Early Retirement Days
Today marks exactly 100 days from April Fools Day 2016 – the date I’ve planned for early retirement. I am off of work today and will spend the day doing last minute errands as we get ready to enjoy Christmas with our families over the next few days. Christmas activities have been a bit of a blur this year. It’s always a busy month, but … Continue reading 100 Days from Early Retirement
November has come and gone and now we are into the holiday season. I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving break and are reasonably well prepared for the festive rush toward Christmas. While many people consider November a bit of a melancholy month, I enjoy the peace and calm that it brings. In the northern USA, the month has (in my mind) a beautiful palate of … Continue reading Early Retirement FIRE Escape – 4 Months Left
The delightful MrsMoneysWorth.com recently posted about things to do before leaving for early retirement and it got me to thinking about what might be the right amount of time to give my MegaCorp notice of quitting. For me, it’s a more complicated decision than just saying “two weeks notice is standard.” As I often do, I consulted the vast library of FIRE (financial independence & retiring … Continue reading FIRE Milestones – Giving Formal Notice
Well, this has certainly been the most dramatic month in the nine months I’ve been posting about our countdown to early retirement. The stock market surged back to positive this month – even my MegaCorp’s stock as they aim to layoff 1,500 useless corporate bureaucrats like me by end of year (Merry Christmas!).
