A few weeks ago, I wrote about my mostly positive, yet not quite compelling experience with a Jeep Wrangler Hybrid EV 4Xe. My son and I rented one in California.
Now, Jeep is recalling all of the 4Xe’s that they made over the last 4 years. There has been a concerning number of fires with the best-selling model. Over the next month, they will contact owners and schedule appointments to have the software updated or visit the dealer.
The problem is that a month is a long time and in the meanwhile, they are telling owners to “refrain from recharging these hybrid vehicles, and to park them away from structures and other vehicles until they are remedied.”
For me, that would be a big issue. It was just 10-degrees F one morning last week and we’re not even officially to the start of winter. Parking my new Jeep outside because it might burn down my garage and house drops my purchase interest quite a bit..
EV owners, have you encountered any restrictions with your vehicles?

I don’t own an EV or Hybrid. They’re not ready for prime time. Body repairs are exorbitant. Battery replacements are even worse. Range anxiety is real. Resale values will shrink. They do not make a drop of difference in fossil fuel issues. And range anxiety is one more life stress I just don’t need at all. Count me out.
