I took Monday “off” this week from posting. I’ve kept a pretty tight schedule of posting on Mondays & Fridays for years, but I figured I’d just post once this week.
The reason is that we were simply enjoying early retirement. There’s something about the winter in Florida that makes retirement feel more real and enjoyable. If retirement is like “permanent vacation”, it feels especially so in America’s vacation capitol.
It’s not just the weather. Unlike summer in Minnesota – when the weather is also fantastic – Florida is just filled with activities, concerts, and entertainment. Late January is when spring starts peeking through. By Valentine’s Day, it will really be here in full force.
Over the last 2 weeks we’ve been playing pickleball, went golfing, biking, enjoyed the Arts Fest at EPCOT, went to an Orlando orchestra concert, competed in a trivia night, and had some nice meals on restaurant patios (with friends from both FL & MN).
We even took two classes at Walt Disney World: one for Spanish Mosaics and one for Character Animation. We’ve been so busy with all of these activities that I haven’t cracked the Dan Brown novel I brought down – and my wife has been slower than usual on her knitting project.
We do have some “real life” responsibilities coming up. I need to get some maintenance done on my SUV, we want to add some cabinets/ bar to our condo, and I need to get started on my income taxes. Oh joy. Those can wait for February.
How are you enjoying your January? Is it also a “no responsibility” month?

How did you do in trivia?

We didn’t do well at all, despite having a table of 8 people! We usually do much better.
We blew a category on “cartoons” because it was heavy on 1990s/early 2000s Nickelodeon stuff, and we didn’t have anyone younger than 45 that could have helped us at that. We usually have a few high school / college students to help with the more recent cultural stuff.
We also lost some points on the final question, which was “name as many of the 32 acts that appeared at Woodstock as possible”. We got 10 right (despite having a couple at our table who were actually AT Woodstock in 1969). The best table got 14 right.
We definitely could have used your help, as I know you are a regular trivia champion. Fun fact … I was on my High School’s Quiz Bowl Team and my “Senior Ambition” was to “Have my name as the answer to a Trivial Pursuit Question”.

Both Russ Maziarka and Tim Rubash were on the closing bell call for 3M at Wall Street on November 7, 2015. Who is the only person in the world who is friends with both?

I was already writing this blog at that time! You’ll recognize the unfortunate topic of my post that week … https://mrfirestation.com/2015/10/23/blue-days-megacorp-financial-independence/
