Tomorrow – April Fool’s Day, appropriately enough – marks the one year anniversary of leaving MegaCorp for early retirement last year. The year has gone very fast and filled with a lot of fun and terrific memories.
I don’t have any words of wisdom to share other than TIME is the ultimate luxury and the sooner you can reach financial independence and early retirement (FIRE), the better!
It is fun to reflect back on the exciting happenings I captured in posts last year:
- Cheers To Early Retirement – Formal Notice
- FIRE Milestone – Formal Resignation Notice
- FIRE Milestones – Announcing To Colleagues
- FIRE Milestone – The Glorious Farewell Party
- FIRE Milestone – Final Day: Blasting Into Retirement
- Stepping Into Early Retirement – Initial Observations
- Milestone: First 50 Days of Early Retirement
Not surprisingly, these are some of the most read, most searched posts in MrFireStation.com. If you are on your journey to FIRE, I hope you will get a little inspiration from these posts as to how exciting it is to break FREE!

Congrats!! Anything you were worried about in your first year that came to fruition? Anything that you didn’t think about that became a factor? I have a few more years before FI but I am always curious about the actual reality of things. 🙂 Anywho, congrats again!!

Good question! The short answer is no. I felt well prepared for early retirement, and everything went about as I would have desired. Even if I had to, I am not sure if I could express one real disappointment over the last year. It really has been terrific to have so much time to do so many things – slowly, so they can be savored.

That’s good to hear. I go back and forth with things in my head…even changing my FI number to more when my expenses don’t justify it. I am all about having more time to do what I really enjoy doing. My job is great, I just don’t want to work as much as I have been. This is inspiring to read and I can’t wait to join the ranks!!

Can’t believe how quickly the “TIME” has gone by. Happy early retirement anniversary! Still makes me laugh to think you left on April 1st!

Thanks, Brian – Early retirement is the sweet life, indeed! I thought I was being clever retiring on April 1 – I’m coming to the realization that a lot of people pick that date (or 3/31), because it is usually just after bonuses are paid out. 🙂
