With just a few weeks to go before early retirement, I’ve started the process of taking things home from my MegaCorp office. My plan is to take home bits & pieces until April Fool’s Day, when I turn in my badge & laptop on my final day. It’s a small but meaningful milestone in my path to early retirement on April 1st. Related Milestones: Giving … Continue reading FIRE Milestones – Taking Stuff Home From Work
In the MegaCorp world, you are in the Navy. Most everything is respectable, most everyone follows the orders, and most everybody works to get along. While the discipline and diligence drives efficiency and executional success, the lack of independence and spontaneity can be huge demotivators to people over time. Achieving FIRE (financial independence & retiring early) has me feeling like a pirate – going rogue … Continue reading FIRE Station Fun – Life Of Independence

I am slowly coming to the realization that I now have time to waste. I say that in the most positive sense. After all, as John Lennon … Continue reading Having Time To Waste

Someone recently asked me if so don’t like my job. Their line of questioning seemed to be based on the idea that you’d only quit your job and retire early if it was BAD – instead of the idea that not working would be better. For me, my planning to retire early is secondary to my hapless at work. Truthfully, my job is very … Continue reading Make Sure Time Is On Your Side

As this post is published, I am getting up for another work week at MegaCorp. I’ve gotten up for work on about 1,400 Monday mornings since I started working almost 27 years ago. That said, the last couple of weeks have been quite different, as the shadows of my career are starting to get longer since I announced my pending early retirement two weeks ago … Continue reading Long Shadows At MegaCorp – 5 Weeks To Early Retirement
