With Independence Day, it is hard not to see the parallels between what the Founding Fathers fought for as a nation and what we all fight for in our lives … FREEDOM.

As it says in the Declaration of Independence, we “are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. ——”  These are the same things that we are on a journey for in pursuing a life of FIRE – financial independence and retiring early.  Our goal is to find for ourselves a lifestyle where we make all of our own decisions with all of our time & resources and truly pursue happiness however we see fit.

I recently wrote a post about the “Honeymoon Phase” of early retirement.  The responses from readers on this site and on Early-Retirement.org convinced me that the honeymoon never ends when the foundation of it is our own FREEDOM.
